Duty begins year with strong outing at Vado

Double Duty Motorsports driver Justin Duty opened his 2024 Super Late Model season on the first weekend in January with the first two events of the 18th annual Wild West Shootout at Vado (N.M.) Speedway Park. His Don Frank Floors No. 15 was among a stout field of 44 Supers in the pit area at the 3/8-mile oval.

When the racing began on Saturday, Duty finished ninth in his heat race and sixth in his B-Main, two positions shy of a transfer spot into the 40-lap, $11,000-to-win feature.

However, he had one last chance to qualify via a 10-lap dash with the winner having the option to advance or collect $1,000. Duty turned in a runner-up result, bringing his night to a close.

On Sunday, Duty found himself in a similar position after a sixth-place result in his heat and a fifth-place B-Main finish once again put him in the dash. The outcome worked in Duty’s favor this time as he fended off a hard-charging Morgan Bagley to take the checkered flag.

Duty started shotgun on the field in the night’s 40-lap, $11,000-to-win feature race and advanced an impressive 12 positions to register a 13th-place result.

The Wild West Shootout continues on Wednesday, January 10.
