Sanders picks up Southern Oklahoma TOMS victory
Rodney Sanders continued his ultra-successful 2023 campaign with a Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) start in Oklahoma during the first weekend in November. He concluded the event by taking the checkered flag in the Sooner State.
With a $4,000 first-place payday up for grabs, the eighth annual Summit TOMS Nationals brought 48 Modifieds to the 3/8-mile Southern Oklahoma Speedway (Ardmore, Oklahoma).
Sanders began the series’ season-finale event by winning both of his heat races during Friday’s qualifying night.
He then started fourth in Saturday’s 30-lap A-Main, a race in which all 30 starters come to the green flag three-wide. Sanders picked up three positions in the race and scored his 17th victory of the season over Chris Henigan, Colby Smith, Chris Huckeba and Mitchell Clement.
The race was Sanders' last of the season. During the impressive campaign he scored his fifth Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) championship to go along with 17 feature wins, 50 top-five finishes and 67 top-10 results.
