Engine trouble stops Mullens at Thunderbird
With the final weekend of the Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) season washed out in Kansas, Tanner Mullens changed course and headed to Oklahoma with his Super Late Model on Friday.
Mullens was one of 19 Late Model competitors at the half-mile Thunderbird Speedway (Muskogee, Oklahoma) for the $6,000-to-win Hayden Ross Memorial.
He drove his No. 02 ride to a sixth-place qualifying effort, starting him second in his heat race on the clay oval. Despite a runner-up result, Mullens hurt his engine on the last lap of the heat, ending his evening before the 25-lap main event.
