Winger banks $10,000 with Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series at Lavonia
Ashton Winger found himself in action with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series over Labor Day weekend for a doubleheader with the tour at Lavonia (Ga.) Speedway and Rome (Ga.) Speedway.
Following the fourth-quickest lap in qualifying at Lavonia (Ga.) Speedway, Ashton got the jump in his heat race and pulled the No. 3 position in the redraw to start the 50-lap main event from the second row. Quickly moving into the runner-up position, Winger used the high-side on lap 22 to skate passed race-long leader Cla Knight. Winger maneuvered around lap traffic in the closing laps to secure the $10,000 payday over Knight, David McCoy, Zack Mitchell, and Joseph Joiner who completed the Top-5.
With the field elevated to 26 Late Models at Rome (Ga.) Speedway on Saturday, Winger picked up another heat race victory and once again drew the No. 3 position in the redraw. Rolling off from the third-position in the $15,000-to-win Rome Boss, Ashton moved into the top spot on lap 26 but suffered a flat tire with just one lap remaining. Winger limped around the speedway to wind up sixth in the finishing order.
