Top-5 at Jason Leffler Memorial Highlights Ryan Timms’ Weekend

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back to work with the NOS Energy USAC National Midget Series, Ryan Timms reunited with the Keith Kunz Motorsports team and picked up a fourth-place finish during Friday’s Jason Leffler Memorial and charged from 19th to 11th on Saturday night in Macon, IL.

“Wayne City went really well,” Ryan Timms said. “I led a few laps, and ended up fourth. The car could have been a little better, but we already know where we can make improvements.”

Kicking the doubleheader weekend off on Friday night at Wayne County Speedway in Wayne City, IL, Timms timed the JBL backed No. 67 in third fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the third row of his heat race, the Oklahoma City, OK driver chased after one of the five automatic transfer spots into the feature event. Working his way into fifth, Timms held on to the final ticket into the ‘A’ where he lined up fourth for the 40-lapper.

When the Leffler Memorial feature came to life, Timms moved into second and applied heavy pressure to race leader, and teammate, Gavin Miller. Charging ahead of Miller numerous times, Timms was unable to make any of his advances stick until the ninth lap when he finally secured the top spot.

Out in front, Timms soon felt pressure from second running Tanner Thorson. While Thorson took a couple shots at Timms, he was unsuccessful until the 16th lap when he made the pass and dropped Timms back to second as he smoked the guard rail with his right rear tire.

Continuing to run in second, a lap 21 restart saw Timms slip back to third as Zach Daum got by him before Logan Seavey was able to find a way by in the race’s closing laps.

Running in fourth, Timms secured the spot as the checkered flag flew.

Saturday night the scene shifted to Macon, IL as they series invade Macon Speedway. Timing in 19th fastest on the tight confines of Macon Speedway, Timms found himself in a bit of an early hole.

Running seventh in his heat race, the youngster was relegated to the ‘B’ Main where he did earn a transfer into the feature event. Taking the green flag from the 19th starting spot on the tight bullring, Timms did a nice job of working his way forward.

Working all over the racy surface, Timms clawed his way towards the Top-10 as he capped the night off with an 11th place finish.

“Macon was a bit of a struggle,” Timms added. “I timed in horrible, had a bad heat race, and struggled with some drive early in the night. Able to race into the feature, we did get a lot of our issues figured out, and we had a decent run to 11th. I know once we get a few kins worked out, we will be back up front winning races.”
