Ross Robinson attends North-South 100 weekend at Florence
Ross Robinson returned with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) as the series drew 61 competitors to Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) for a pair of prelims on Thursday and Friday to kick off the 46th running of the Sunoco North-South 100 weekend.
With the 61-car field split in two, Robinson followed up a seventh-place finish in his heat with a fifth-to-third run in his consolation race. Chasing a $5,000 payday in Thursday’s opener, Ross gained five spots in the 25-lapper to finish 18th.
Starting Friday’s $5,000-to-win preliminary feature in 23rd via a third-place outing in his consolation race, Ross rallied by passing six cars to salvage a 17th-place finish.
With preliminary results from Thursday and Friday setting the grid for heat races on Saturday, Robinson missed a transfer spot by two cars in his heat and B-Main, forcing him to use a provisional into the $75,000-to-win Sunoco North-South 100 finale. Rolling off 28th, Ross was an early retiree on lap 31.
Ross sits 14th in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
