Hedgecock records a pair of top-five finishes in North-South 100 prelims
Entering his BMF Race Cars No. 23 Late Model into battle with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS), Cory Hedgecock ventured to Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) as a pair of prelims on Thursday and Friday kicked off the 46th running of the Sunoco North-South 100 weekend.
With the massive 61-car field divided into two groups, Hedgecock raced into his preliminary feature with a third-place finish in his heat race. Chasing a $5,000 payday, Cory charged forward seven spots to register a fifth-place finish. He followed Bobby Pierce, Ryan Gustin, Josh Rice, and Matt Cosner across the line.
The following night, Cory outran pole-starting Jimmy Owens in his heat race to pick up the eight-lap victory. Starting on the pole for the $5,000-to-win prelim, Hedgecock held onto a fourth-place finish after gambling on tire choice.
With results from prelims on Thursday and Friday setting the grid for heat races on Saturday, Hedgecock stormed into the $75,000-to-win Sunoco North-South 100 finale with an impressive fourth-to-first run in his heat. Rolling off on the third row, Cory ran consistently in the top-10 the first half of the race but made the decision to retire early on lap 84.
