McDowell lands 11th-place finish in North-South 100 at Florence
Dale McDowell entered the Shane McDowell Racing No. 17m Team Zero Race Cars Late Model into battle with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) as a pair of prelims on Thursday and Friday kicked off the 46th running of the North-South 100 weekend.
With the 61-car field divided in two, McDowell squeezed into the opener with a fifth-place finish in his heat race. Rolling off 17th, Dale advanced through the field eight positions in the 25-lapper to finish ninth.
For another $5,000-to-win preliminary feature on Friday, Dale followed up the fourth-fastest qualifying lap in his group with a third-place finish in his heat. Despite losing ground early in his A-Main, McDowell clawed his way back to finish 11th.
Based on preliminary results and Saturday’s heat race invert, Dale started and finished first in his heat on Saturday, locking him on the second row for the $75,000-to-win Sunoco North-South 100 A-Main. Falling one spot shy of a top-10 finish in the 100-lap affair, McDowell notched an 11th-place outing.
