Ramirez runner-up in Show-Me Shootout
Dereck Ramirez entered Saturday’s Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri) having won the previous three editions of the Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) event. However, this year he came up just shy of besting the 38 entries in the pit area to make it four in a row.
Ramirez began the night by qualifying third in his group in his Boomtest Well Service No. 4R Modified, then drove from fourth to second in his heat race on the 3/8-mile oval.
The 2021 USMTS champion started the 50-lap, $10,000-to-win A-Main from the inside of the first row, but could never get past eventual winner Rodney Sanders. He took the checkered flag 1.554 seconds behind Sanders, with Terry Phillips finishing third, Dan Ebert fourth and Tanner Mullens fifth.
Ramirez is now tied for fourth place in the USMTS National point standings.
USMTS events scheduled for I-70 Speedway (Odessa, Missouri) on Thursday and Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, Kansas) on Friday were rained out.
