Top-5 finish for Tanner Mullens at Lucas Oil Speedway
After rain washed away scheduled Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) stops at I-70 Speedway (Odessa, Missouri) on Thursday and Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, Kansas) on Friday, Tanner Mullens finally took to the track on Saturday evening for the 13th annual Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout at Wheatland, Missouri's Lucas Oil Speedway.
He was among 38 USMTS drivers at the 3/8-mile oval looking to score a $10,000 first-place payday.
Mullens finished fifth in his heat race aboard his Mel Hamebelton Ford No. 02 Modified at the "Diamond of Dirt Tracks," but transferred to the 50-lap main event via a B-Feature victory.
He started 16th in the A-Main and marched forward an impressive 11 positions to come home fifth in a race that featured only one caution period. He followed Rodney Sanders, Dereck Ramirez, Terry Phillips and Dan Ebert under the checkered flag.
With the top-five result, Mullens remains sixth in series points.
