Carson Ferguson

Heartbreaker at North Georgia in final week with Southern Nationals

On Tuesday afternoon, Carson Ferguson rolled into Toccoa Raceway (Toccoa, Ga.) with his Paylor Motorsports crew to begin the final week of Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Series competition.

Locking in the Top-5 in qualifying, Carson was fourth-quickest in his group which placed him on the fourth-row for the 40-lap main event. Riding around inside the Top-10, Ferguson rolled to a seventh-place finish in the $7,553-to-win feature.

Traveling to Ray Cook's Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, N.C.) on Thursday afternoon, Ferguson once again locked himself into the A-Main during qualifying by laying down the third-fastest lap in his group. For another $7,553-to-win main event, Carson moved forward two spots and finished just off the podium in fourth.

For the penultimate event of the summer tour at North Georgia Speedway (Chatsworth, Ga.), Carson was fastest in qualifying and victorious in his heat race which earned him the pole position for the 53-lap main event. Shooting to the top spot on the initial start, Ferguson dominated the first-half of the $10,053-to-win feature. With Dale McDowell hot on his heels, Carson maneuvered around lap traffic until the final lap when a lapped car slowed in front him. Ferguson was unable to avoid the slow car which allowed McDowell to sneak by him on the last lap. Carson finished second while Donald McIntosh rounded out the podium.

With Saturday's finale at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) pushed to Sunday evening, Ferguson transferred to the main event via his B-Main and would start 16th in the 53-lap feature. For the final $10,053-to-win race of the series, Ferguson recorded an 11th-place outing.

Carson finished fourth in series points.
