Pair of top-fives in Schaeffer's Southern Nationals doubleheader
Chris Ferguson trekked to Beckley Motor Speedway (Beckley, W.Va.) on Friday evening to compete in the first two rounds of Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals 2023 campaign.
In a field of 32 cars, Ferguson raced into the opener with a convincing eight-lap heat race victory. With $10,053 on the line, Chris dropped one spot in the 53-lap affair to finish fifth.
After Mother Nature postponed Saturday’s stop to Sunday, Chris followed the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals to Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.) on Sunday for another $10,053-to-win event. With a runner-up run in his heat race positioning him on the third row for the feature, Ferguson jumped up two spots to register a third-place finish. He chased race-long pacesetter Dale McDowell and his cousin Carson Ferguson to the checkers.
