Nick Hoffman enjoys solid World of Outlaws weekend, tightens points chase
Back on the road with the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series, Nick Hoffman took his Tye Twarog Racing No. 9 Late Model into battle on Friday at 81 Speedway (Park City, Kan.) for the two-day Wichita Late Model Showdown.
Splitting the 38-car field up for a pair of preliminary features, Hoffman followed up the fourth-fastest qualifying lap in his group with a third-place finish in his 25-lap prelim.
On Saturday, Nick raced his way into the $30,000-to-win Wichita Late Model Showdown with a runner-up performance in his heat. Advancing onto the podium, Hoffman improved four positions in the 60-lap affair to register a second-place finish. He challenge pacesetter Dennis Erb Jr. in the closing distance but was never able to get around the eventual race-winner. Tanner English, Ryan Gustin, and Bobby Pierce completed the top-five finishers.
In a packed house on Sunday at Off Road Speedway (Norfolk, Neb.), Hoffman’s third-place finish in his heat race positioned him on the fourth row for the weekend finale. With $10,000 on the line, Nick steered forward four positions to place fourth. He chased Bobby Pierce, Brandon Sheppard, and Shane Clanton to the checkers with Cade Dillard coming in fifth.
Nick is currently third in the latest WoO point standings, four markers behind Bobby Pierce and only six behind point leader Chris Madden.
