Ferguson finds LOLMDS victory lane at Smoky Mountain Speedway
Chris Ferguson was back behind the wheel of his Live Oak Aesthetic & Family Dentistry No. 22 Late Model on Friday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) for the doubleheader weekend with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS).
With officials making the decision to set the grid for both preliminary features based on time trial results, Ferguson topped his 22-car group with a 13.733-second lap. Leading the field to the green in his prelim, Chris led flag-to-flag in the 30-lapper to capture his second win of the season and a $5,000 prize. He finished 1.073 seconds ahead of his cousin Carson Ferguson with Jonathan Davenport, Hudson O’Neal, and Jimmy Owens completing the top-five finishers.
Rolling off on the front row of the six-car dash on Saturday, Chris chased fellow prelim winner Ricky Thornton Jr. to finish second. With a $50,000 payday on the line in the 60-lap Mountain Moonshine Classic finale, Ferguson set the pace for the first 25 circuits but couldn’t contain a charging Thornton as he surrendered the lead on lap 26. He went on to place third in the 60-lap affair, trailing Thornton and Hudson O’Neal to the checkers.
