Rodney Sanders claims Friday victory at Doug Murphrey Memorial

Rodney Sanders continued his winning ways over the weekend with a $5,000 triumph during the USRA American Racer Modified Series sanctioned Doug Murphrey Memorial at Ark-La-Tex Speedway.

The Friday night victory was achieved aboard his Wichita Tank Racing / Paulson Rock Products / Stussy Construction No. 20 Texas Locomotive Solutions / Kenny’s Tile / ARMI Contractors / MB Customs Race Car / Hatfield Racing Engine Modified.

“We passed a lot of cars and got the win on Friday night at Ark-La-Tex (Speedway). We were just dialed in from the time that we were unloaded. It took a little longer to get rolling this year than we would’ve liked, but we’ve really hit our stride over the past month,” Sanders said. “We’re working on getting a new car together this week as we prepare for a busy second half of the season. I want to thank each-and-every person who supports our program and keeps us going up-and-down the road.”

Modified ace Rodney Sanders continued his recent hot streak on Friday with a triumph in the first night of the 17th annual Doug Murphrey Memorial at Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana). It was Sanders’ fourth victory in his last seven A-Main starts.

Sanders’ No. 20 machine was one of 45 American Racer USRA Modified Series (ARMS) entries for the event paying $5,000 to win.

With a stout field of competition in the pits, Sanders opened the evening by steering his No. 20 machine from seventh to second in his heat race, putting him sixth on the grid for the 40-lap main event.

Sanders took the lead in the A-Main for the first time on Lap 14 and controlled the rest of the race on the quarter-mile clay oval. He scored the win by 1.757 seconds over Jason Hughes with Tyler Townsend, Colton Horner and Chase Allen rounding out the Top 5.

The win was Sanders’ second with ARMS in 2023 and his sixth overall this season.

Saturday’s scheduled $5,000-to-win finale of the Doug Murphrey Memorial was canceled due to rain.

This week the team is currently assembling a new car. If they get it done in time they may race somewhere this week, but that’s still to be determined.

Once any plans are finalized, they’ll be posted at www.RodneySandersRacing.net.
