Brad Whiteside Wins Dick Wilkinson Memrorial at Ransomville
RANSOMVILLE, NY (June 2, 2023) Caledonia, NY’s Brad Whiteside won the Dick Wilkinson Memorial for the Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks at the Ransomville Speedway Friday night, presented by Mark Cerrone Inc. For Whiteside, it was his second Ransomville victory of the 2023 season. Chad Brachmann from Sanborn, NY won the Krown Undercoating Modified feature. Nelson Mason from Niagara Falls, Ontario won his first Hy-Tech Concrete DIRTcar Sportsman feature. Brandon Sherwood from Sanborn, NY won his first KiPo Chevrolet Street Stocks feature of the season. Wayne Swinson from Niagara Falls, Ontario won his first Kevin’s Carpet Cleaning Novice Sportsman feature.
Chris Leone and Brad Whiteside were on the front row for the Dick Wilkinson Memorial for the Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks with Leone showing the way from the drop of the green. Brad Whiteside would be credited with the lead on lap one ahead of Leone, Matt Hornquist, Ian Paul, and Dave Dussault. Whiteside would start to pull away from the field, ahead of Leone and Hornquist. Cole Susice was able to get around Ian Paul just past the halfway mark to move into fourth place. Whiteside would go on to score the win, his second of the season.
Pete Bicknell and Scott Kerwin were on the front row for the Krown Undercoating Modifieds feature event with Kerwin taking the lead away from Bicknell. Chad Brachmann would race his way into third early on ahead of Erick Rudolph, and Gary Lindberg. Noah Walker slowed in turn one to bring out the race’s first caution on lap seven. Chad Brachmann would battle with Bicknell for second on the restart. The caution would come back out as Steve Lewis Jr and John Smith got together in turn one. On the restart, Kerwin would regain control of the field ahead of Bicknell, Brachmann, Rudolph, and Mat Williamson. Kerwin hopped the cushion on lap 10, allowing Bicknell to take over the lead. Brachmann would take over second on lap 15, as Erick Rudolph battled with Kerwin for third place. Brachmann would complete the pass on lap 18 to take the lead away from Bicknell. Rudolph would take second on lap 21, with Williamson moving into third on lap 22. Brachmann would hold off Rudolph to score the win, his first of the season at the Big R.
AJ Custodi and Jessica Kriegisch brought the Hy-Tech Concrete Sportsman to the green flag for their feature event, with Kriegisch taking over the lead from Custodi and Nelson Mason. Nelson Mason would take over second from Custodi on lap eight, as Kriegisch started to pull away from the field. Brett Senek and Phil Vigneri III battled for fourth place for several laps, with Senek taking over the position on lap five. Tyler Moore spun in turn two to bring out the race’s first caution on lap 10. Kriegisch would take back the lead on the restart ahead of Mason, Senek, Cam Tuttle, and Derek Wagner all working their way into the top five. Nelson Mason would use the inside lane to take over the lead on lap 19 and would start to pull away. Mason would drive away to his first Ransomville win ahead of Kriegisch, Senek, Tuttle, and Wagner.
Brandon Sherwood and Simon Bissell brought the KiPo Chevrolet Street Stocks to the green flag for their feature event with Sherwood showing the way ahead of Bissell and Ken Camidge. The trio of Sherwood, Bissell, and Camidge pulled away from Chris Dziomba and Joey Zimmerman. Sherwood would hold off all challenges from Bissell and Camidge to pick up his first Ransomville win of the season.
Wayne Swinson and Luke Blose were on the front row for the Kevin’s Carpet Cleaning Novice Sportsman main event, with Swinson showing the way ahead of Blose, and Mike Kramarz. Swinson and Kramarz would pull away from the field and were going to settle the race amongst themselves until a Cameron Rowlands spin in turn two would bunch the field back up for a late-race restart. On the restart, Kramarz and Swinson would battle for the lead, with Swinson getting his first career feature win.
Next Friday night, the Empire Super Sprints will make their annual trip to Ransomville as part of their 40th Anniversary Season to race in the Ron Lux Memorial. Hebeler Sales & Service, Nuttall Gear, and A-Verdi Storage Containers will present the racing action. The Hy-Tech Concrete DIRTcar Sportsman, Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks, and Kevin’s Carpet Cleaning Novice Sportsman will round out the racing card. Pit gates will open at 5pm, grandstands open at 6pm, and racing will begin at 7:15pm.
