Kaeden Cornell
Cornell competes in Show-Me 100 weekend at Wheatland
The 2023 season officially kicked off for Willard, Mo., racer Kaeden Cornell on Thursday afternoon with a visit to Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) for the 31st annual Show-Me 100 weekend.
Drawing a stout field of 59 Late Models for the event co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) and the Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association (MLRA), Cornell clocked in 10th-fastest in his 29-car group before placing sixth in his heat. Needing a second-place finish or better in his B-Main to make the Cowboy Classic A-Main, Kaeden fell short with a ninth-place outing.
For another round of prelims on Friday, Kaeden’s seventh-place finish in his heat race relegated him into one of the three consolation races. Sending the top-two in the $6,000-to-win Don and Billie Gibson Tribute feature, Cornell moved forward two positions but failed to qualify with a sixth-place run.
Sitting 40th overall in the preliminary point standings on Saturday, Cornell rolled off eighth in his B-Main for one last shot into the $50,000-to-win Show-Me 100. Locking in the top-two finishers, Kaeden made an impressive charge up to fourth but couldn’t crack a transfer position. He earned a spot into the Midwest Sheet Metal Show-Me Challenge but ran into brake line issues.
