Double duty Phillips competes at Sweet Springs
Friday night found Waylon Phillips in action at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex (Blue Springs, Mo.) competing with the National Open Wheel NOW 600 Series for the doubleheader weekend.
In a field of 39 Community Bank Non-Wing Micros, Phillips recorded a solid time trial effort before fading to finish fifth in his heat. Needing to place third or better to make the opener, Waylon fell one spot short with a third-place outing.
During the same night in the A-Class Micro ranks, Waylon followed up the second-fastest qualifying effort with a third-place finish in his heat. Gaining one spot in the 25-lap feature, Phillips notched a 11th-place finish.
Back competing in both divisions on Saturday, Phillips failed to qualify for the Non-Wing finale in both his heat race and B-Main, shifting his focus to the A-Class ranks. With a runner-up finish in his consolation race placing him on the ninth row for the feature, Waylon faded one spot to place 18th.
