Brandon Sheppard

Fifth-place finish in Castrol FloRacing Night in America opener at Eldora

Brandon Sheppard made a mid-week trip to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) to defend his Castrol FloRacing Night in America 2022 title as the miniseries kicked off the 2023 slate at the half-mile oval.

With the 54-car field split into two groups for time trials, Sheppard qualified fifth-fastest in his group before placing second in his heat. With $23,023 on the line in the feature, Brandon advanced forward five spot in the 50-lapper to finish fifth. He followed Mike Marlar, Tim McCreadie, Tanner English, and Jonathan Davenport across the line.

For another $23,023-to-win Castrol FloRacing Night in America event on Wednesday night at Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Ind.), Brandon’s second-place finish in his heat placed him on the second row for the feature. With the track taking rubber early, Sheppard ran a steady pace to finish 10th.

Joining the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series on Thursday afternoon at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.) for the Seymour Showdown, Sheppard raced his way into the show with a consolation victory after missing a transfer spot by one car in his heat. Gaining four spots in the 40-lap affair, Brandon recorded a 14th-place finish.

The action-packed race week concluded on Friday with a visit to Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) for the two-day Alabama Gang 100 where Brandon’s qualifying effort placed him on the third row for his 20-lap prelim. With $4,000 on the line, Sheppard recorded a fifth-place finish.

Starting Saturday’s $50,000-to-win Alabama Gang 100 main event in ninth via a heat race victory, Sheppard rebounded to finish 14th after getting sent to the tail on the 10th circuit.

Brandon is currently fifth in the latest World of Outlaws point standings.
