Shane Clanton follows WoO tour to DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia
With the East Bay Winternationals behind him, Shane Clanton began the final week of Florida Speedweeks at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla) for the DIRTcar Nationals.
With Monday's qualifying groups grouped into heat races, Clanton qualified seventh-quickest which earned him the seventh-place starting spot in his heat. Shane gained five positions in the heat to set him up for a fourth row A-Main start. For the $7,000 payday, Clanton recorded a Top-10 finish in ninth.
For another $7,000-to-win show on Tuesday, Shane finished fourth in his heat race and started his B-Main from the second row, but was unable to transfer to the A-Main. Being awarded a provisional starting spot, Clanton was an early retiree in the 25-lap feature and was scored 26th.
With the field split into three $5,000-to-win features, Clanton was placed in the first feature of the night and pulled off after completing only eight laps to finish 17th.
On Thursday night as the remainder of the week became World of Outlaws Case Construction Late Model Series sanctioned, Shane came fifth in his heat before placing third in his heat. Earning a provisional starting spot in the feature, Clanton recorded a 27th-place finish in the 30-lap A-Main.
With wet weather axing Friday's program, action at Volusia resumed on Saturday for the $20,000-to-win finale. Clanton timed in sixth-quickest in qualifying before securing a sixth-place spot in the A-Main with a convincing heat race victory. In the 50-lap main event, Clanton dropped through the field to finish 20th.
