Fourth-place finish in Cotton Pickin' 100 opener at Magnolia
On Thursday afternoon, Payton Freeman traveled to Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Miss.) to kick off the Cotton Pickin’ 100 weekend with the rescheduled Comp Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) event. (Zackary Washington photos)
In a field of 37 cars, Freeman laid down the ninth-fastest time in his group before placing third in his heat. Starting the opening night feature in ninth, Payton faded five positions to finish 14th.
For Friday’s $4,000-to-win program, Payton’s third-place finish in his heat race positioned him on the sixth row for the feature. Wheeling his way into the Top-5, Freeman passed eight cars in the 40-lap affair to register a fourth-place finish. He followed Ashton Winger, Neil Baggett, and Brian Rickman to the checkers with Mason Oberkramer coming in fifth.
On Saturday evening, Freeman secured his spot into the $12,000-to-win Cotton Pickin’ 100 finale with a fourth-to-third run in his heat. After running as high as seventh, Payton went onto cross the line in 12th in the 60-lapper.
