The win marked his third of the year in his Bob Cullen Racing / Thomason Express No. 3s J&J Ventures & Gaming/ Hoker Trucking / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model.

In five starts during the course of the week, Shirley tabulated five Top-10 finishes to go with the win as he climbed to second in the latest DIRTcar Summer Nationals standings.

“We had to get a little aggressive there at Clarksville (Speedway) after another driver got aggressive with us while battling for the lead, but it all worked out and we got another win,” Shirley said. “Our consistency just keeps getting better and better, and I can’t say enough about this Bob Cullen Racing team, and how hard everybody is working right now. Thanks to all of our supporters. We’ll get back after it this week and see if we can’t grab some more wins.”

DIRTcar Summer Nationals action resumed last Tuesday at Red Hill Raceway (Sumner, Ill.), where 24 drivers entered the $5,000-to-win program as the facility hosted its grand reopening. Brian won his heat race before receiving the third-starting spot for the feature. He clawed his way to a runner-up finish behind Tyler Erb with Payton Freeman, Shannon Babb, and Jason Feger completing the Top 5.

Action on Wednesday was slated for Benton (Mo.) Raceway Park, but track conditions forced the program to be canceled after hot laps.

On Thursday night the tour returned to the Land of Lincoln with a $5,000-to-win event at Fayette County Speedway (Brownstown, Ill.), where a third-place finish in his heat race lined Shirley up seventh on the feature grid. When the checkered flag fell on the 50-lap feature, Brian was credited with a sixth-place finish.

A trip to the recently reopened Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway on Friday found Brian advancing five spots in the $10,000-to-win feature to claim a sixth-place finish.

At Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway on Saturday Shirley qualified second fastest in his group before winning his heat race to earn the second-starting spot for the $10,000-to-win main event. Battling with pole sitter Payton Freeman in the rain-delayed feature, Shirley dove under Freeman on the 34th circuit to take sole possession of the lead. The Illinois racer went on to score the $10,000 victory with Freeman, Josh Putnam, Bobby Pierce, and Christian Hanger completing the Top-5 finishers.

The week drew to a close on Sunday night at Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway, where Brian won his heat race to earn the second-starting spot for the 40-lap feature. He ran in the Top 5 throughout the $5,000-to-win feature before crossing the finish line in third behind Jason Feger and Shannon Babb.

Brian has climbed to second in the latest DIRTcar Summer Nationals point standings.
