Thornton Jr. improves 16 spots in Bristol Bash finale
On Friday night, Ricky Thornton Jr. followed the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series to Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tenn.) for the Bristol Bash invitational. After destroying a car in practice on Thursday evening, Ricky came two spots short of a transfer position in his heat race on Friday with a sixth-place finish. Coming in second in his B-Main behind Tyler Bruening, Thornton Jr. locked into the 20th-starting position for the opening night feature. After Saturday evening’s program was postponed to Sunday afternoon, Thornton Jr. followed up a fifth-place finish in his heat with a fourth-place finish in his consolation event. Starting the $20,000-to-win Bristol Bash in 20th, Ricky marched through the field 16 spots to register a fourth-place finish, trailing Devin Moran, Ricky Weiss, and Ross Bailes to the checkers with Brandon Overton coming in fifth.
