Ricky Thornton Jr. rules Lucas Oil MLRA field at Davenport
Wednesday night found Ricky Thornton Jr. in action at Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Ind.) for the Castrol FloRacing Night in America. With a 10-lap heat race victory positioning him fourth on the starting grid for the $10,000-to-win A-Main, Thornton Jr. ran in the top-five early in the 50-lapper but pulled off on lap 31.
With the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) doubleheader weekend cancelled, Ricky traveled to Davenport Speedway (Davenport, Iowa) on Friday afternoon for the Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association (MLRA) opener. In a field of 33 cars, Thornton Jr. topped the speed charts in qualifying before picking up a heat race victory. Turning back early challenges from polesitter Tony Jackson Jr. in the feature, Thornton Jr. stormed to his first career MLRA victory over Tony Toste, Jackson Jr., Garrett Alberson, and Jeremiah Hurst. His fifth win of the season was worth $3,000.
Saturday night’s MLRA event at West Liberty Raceway (West Liberty, Iowa) fell victim to Mother Nature.
