Thornton Jr. scores Top-10 finish in Show-Me 100 at Wheatland
After Mother Nature shifted Thursday’s event to Friday afternoon, Ricky Thornton Jr. was one of 58 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries on hand at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) on Friday for the Cowboy Classic. Following the sixth fastest time in his qualifying group, Thornton Jr. posted a runner-up finish in his heat behind Hudson O’Neal. Starting the $6,000-to-win A-Main in 12th, Ricky improved one spot in the 45-lap affair to finish 11th.
Later Friday evening for the Tribute to Don & Billie Gibson, Ricky topped the 58-car field in time trials before grabbing the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat race. With $6,000 on the line in the feature, Thornton Jr. held his spot for the entire distance of the 40-lapper to place 13th.
With his preliminary results on Friday locking him into the ninth-starting position for Saturday night’s $30,000-to-win Show-Me 100, Ricky muscled forward two spots in the 100-lap affair to come home seventh.
Ricky is currently fifth in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
