Thornton finishes second in North/South Shootout at Florence

Ricky Thornton Jr. and SSI Motorsports returned with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Thursday afternoon at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) for the Sunoco North-South Shootout. With 46 Late Models entered for the $10,000-to-win preliminary feature, Ricky timed in fastest in his group before picking up a heat race win. Earning the pole position for the A-Main, Thornton Jr. paced the field for the first 13 circuits until Brandon Overton powered ahead. On Friday afternoon for a pair of heat races, Thornton Jr. came in fifth in his first heat before finishing third in the second round after sitting out a lengthy weather delay.

Transferring into the B-Main on Saturday, Ricky secured his spot into the $50,000-to-win North/South 100 with a 15-lap consolation victory. Starting in 18th, Thornton Jr. advanced forward eight spots in the 100-lapper to finish 10th.

Ricky climbed to seventh in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
