McCowan KO'd By Yuke Tire at Thunderbird

Dillon McCowan's original plans to race in the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) event at Thunderbird Speedway (Muskogee, Okla.) was nixed by a terminal weather forecast.

As a result, the team entered a single event over the weekend with a Friday trip to Thunderbird Speedway (Muskogee, Okla.) for the Hayden Ross Memorial. The $6,600-to-win event drew 19 entries to the sprawling 1/2-mile oval, and McCowan hit the ground running with the fastest time in qualifying followed by a heat race win to earn the pole position for the feature.

Early in the event he pursued fellow front-row starter Logan Martin for the top spot, but bad luck bi ton the 20th circuit, when a lapped car hit an infield yuke tire, sending it into McCowan's path. Dillon was unable to avoid the runaway tire, and the ensuing damage ended his outing in the 13th position.
