K. Mulholland, Leek, Wilson, Pollock, Clean Sweep at Lake of the Woods Speedway

Racing resumed at Lake of the Woods Speedway with the CARSTAR Kenora WISSOTA Street Stocks Special and weekly classes of Henley Enterprises & HD Contracting Ent. 4-Cylinders, Q104 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and WISSOTA Pure Stocks.

In heat one of the WISSOTA Pure Stocks Derek Pollock was able to take advantage of a good draw and pulled out in the lead. However, Bryson McDonald who has been looking really good after sorting out a fuel problem throughout much of the year, was slowly gaining on the leader. Unfortunately, McDonald ran out of laps giving Pollock the win.

In heat two, Morgan McDonald had a brief battle with Austin Dueck, but after a lap or so, McDonald put half a track lead on the rest of the pack. Wade Barkley would finish third.

The feature had action all over the place. M. McDonald quickly made his way around traffic from the fifth starting position and claimed the lead early on. The race looked like it might go green to checkered. Pollock, who started in the seventh position was now in second as the halfway mark happened. Meanwhile, it was consistent side by side battles throughout the field with Brodie Mcgowan, Michael Copp, B. McDonald all fighting for position.

Suddenly, with about seven laps to go, Copp went around. It was determined Dueck to be the caution taker. On the ensuing restart, Pollock and M. McDonald battled it out for another lap or two. Another caution came out which sent Dueck to the pits early. On the next restart, Pollock found a lane on the outside to claim top spot. As much M. McDonald tried, Pollock only moved up the track even more to distance his lead. After twenty laps of great action, Pollock would make it three in a row for feature wins.

In the Q104 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds heat, Nick Audette started on the pole with Nick Hooper on the outside. A close side by side battle took place for almost half the race between the two, but Hooper had company as Christopher Leek charged on the bottom. Firmly in second, Leek moved to the high side of the track finding a ton of momentum on the outside. After just a couple laps, he would take the lead and the eventual win.

The feature had Audette and Leek starting in the second row, with Hooper and Edward Bell starting on the front row. As the green flag waved, the battle began for the lead. Bell tried everything he could to make it three wide for the top spot, but thought better of it. It looked to be a showdown once again between Leek and Audette. Leek had gained about a six-car length lead, but Audette started to reel him in. It wasn’t before long that Leek had someone on his tail. As much as second place tried to squeeze by, Leek would get good pull out of the corners. Without taking any risk to the outside, Audette would place runner up with Leek earning his second feature win at the track in 2023.

In the Henley Ent. & HD Contracting Ent. 4-Cylinders, Kamea Mulholland and sibling Madoc Mulholland starting on the front row. Kamea took the early lead with the speedster Logan McDonald having to move through traffic from sixth to second. Running out of laps, McDonald had to settle for runner up in the heat race.

With the feature event, there was plenty of action with M. Mulholland starting on the pole and lead several laps. It was three wide multiple times with the two Muhollands holding their own. Things got more interesting as McDonald put himself into the mix. At the halfway point, McDonald took the lead on the outside. Not to be outdone, Kamea moved back to the bottom of the track and pushed her way back into the front. The two cars would run two different grooves throughout much of the race. Madoc would have a great race with Dustin Alcock for third.

At the end of the race, it was Kamea Mulholland with her first feature win in 2023!

In the CARSTAR Kenora WISSOTA Street Stocks, Tylar Wilson dominated from start to finish in the heat race with Andrew Piilo in second and Kevin Desserre struggling in third.

The feature was a close race with Wilson throughout the entire race. Wilson ran in the middle of the track with Piilo on the bottom. A blanket could be put on them every time they crossed the start/finish line. As they came to the final lap, Piilo pushed a bit more at the bottom to gain some sort of traction but it was unsuccessful. Wilson would claim the feature event.

Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who made the races happen tonight! Thank You to our sponsors, fans, and drivers and their crews!

We are off for the Emo Fall Fair Races (August 18-20) but will return on Sunday, August 27 for the Season Track Championship!
