Kuhl Victory Secures Upstate Bomber Championship
It took a day longer than expected but the 2023 season for the Upstate Bomber Series wrapped up on Sunday afternoon. At the end of the 40-lap feature event, it was Dustin Kuhl who found himself in victory lane. In addition to his win, Kuhl secured the 2023 championship for the Upstate Bomber Series.
Kuhl set fast time at the 1/3-mile track Saturday afternoon with a 14.753 qualifying lap narrowly beating out Terry Pittman by two-thousandths of a second. Rains delayed the racing action for the evening and eventually forced race officials to delay the rest of the scheduled events for Sunday afternoon. Kuhl was the winner of the first 10-lap heat race while Pittman won the second.
The margin of victory was nearly seven-tenths of a second for Kuhl as he was able to beat Pittman for the victory. Former Redwood Acres Raceway bomber track champion Jordan Krupa made the trek south and placed third in the feature event. Bob Mook and Jimmy Sorrels rounded out the top five. Former multi-time RAR track champion Jim Redd placed sixth in the race.
Kuhl’s win Sunday at Ukiah was his second win in the series this season at the tight track. Kuhl placed fourth and second in the other two Upstate Bomber races which were held at Redwood Acres Raceway on July 8 and September 9. Brandon White was the July 8 race winner while Krupa won on September 9.
