Bryan Wins Walrod Memorial
Stuart, IA (July 10) – An absolutely gorgeous night accompanied some terrific racing this past Wednesday evening at Stuart Speedway! Mitchell Bunch, Daniel Baudler, Chuck Madden Jr, Randy Bryan and Josh Daniels were the winners at the Clint Walrod Memorial sponsored by Wyffels Hybrids & Motorsports Warehouse.
IMCA Sport Compacts were the first ones to the track come feature time with James Reeves and Nikole Kimmel on the front row. Reeves led Tyler Fiebelkorn through a couple of early cautions with Mitchell Bunch in third. Bunch raced his way into second on lap seven as he and Reeves separated themselves from the pack. With three laps to go Bunch muscled his way into the lead and went on to take the win. Reeves finished second with Fiebelkorn third, John Gill fourth and Logan Richards fifth. Bunch, Reeves and Owen Richards were the heat race winners.
Daniel Baudler and Brandon Patava brought the IMCA Northern SportMods out next with Baudler leading Patava and David Schwartz on lap one. Patava took over the lead on lap three and led until Baudler retook the top spot on lap nine. Colton Nelson threw his hat in the ring on lap ten, but faded after that as Patava shot back into second a lap later. Baudler looked to be on his way to the win, but would have to wait as a lap sixteen caution set up a two lap dash to the finish. As Hunter Longnecker and Schwartz battled for second it was all Baudler as he would go on to his first career victory in the SportMod class. Schwartz came out on top in the battle for second with Longnecker third, Tyler Inman fourth and Nelson fifth. Baudler and Inman were the heat race winners.
IMCA Hobby Stocks were up next with Matthew Wahl and Tanner Dixon showing the way. Dixon led Miciah Hidlebaugh and Chuck Madden Jr on lap one with Madden Jr getting to second on lap two. Brandon Cox got himself up to third on lap five, and three laps later it was Madden Jr overtaking Dixon for the lead. John Watson powered his way to second as that was going on and looked to have the fastest car on the track, but Madden Jr had the preferred line and went on to the feature win. Watson settled for second with Corey Madden third, Cox fourth and Hidlebaugh fifth. Nick Foster and Cox were the heat race winners.
Randy Bryan and Jeff Stensland drew the first two chips out of the bucket to get the front row start for the MADCRA Mod Lite twenty lap feature for the Clint Walrod Memorial. Bryan took command early with Erin Turner and Mike Morrill not far behind. Morrill made it to second just before a caution came out for a three car melee in turn one. Once the race resumed it was all Bryan as he went on to lead every lap and take the win. Morrill finished second with Joel Huggins third, Turner fourth and Bryan Zehm fifth. Huggins and Morrill were the heat race winners.
The last race for the night was the IMCA Stock Cars with Craig Carlson and Ty Hill on the front row. Carlson led lap one with Jeremy Gettler taking over on lap two. Gettler, Carlson and Hill were the top three until Josh Daniels passed Hill on lap six. Chad Legere brought out the yellow on lap eight, and this bunched the field together for what would be the final time. Daniels took advantage and got to Gettler’s back bumper, looking for the right opportunity to pounce. That opportunity came on lap thirteen and Daniels wasn’t passing it up, blowing by Gettler on the bottom side of the track. Daniels would go on to the victory with Gettler second, Marcus Fagan third from eleventh, Buck Schafroth fourth and Todd VanEaton fifth. Brock Badger and Gettler were the heat race winners.
We’d like to thank all who came out to support the race track at our eleventh event of the year. Next Wednesday we’ll have weekly racing sponsored by Karl Chevrolet of Stuart & Avey Sanitation and be joined by the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks. See you then!
