Honeycutt finishes on Florence podium, Lopez caught up in crash
Bryson Lopez Racing (BLR) took on the abrasive surface of Timmonsville, South Carolina’s Florence Motor Speedway on Friday evening with the zMAX CARS Tour. The two-car outfit scored mixed results in the 15-car Pro Late Model portion of the Cook Out 225.
In qualifying, BLR”s Kaden Honeycutt posted the fifth-quickest time around the 4/10-mile oval in his No. 47 Atlanta Paving & Concrete Construction Chevrolet SS. His teammate Brandon Lopez qualified his No. 6 Terminal Maintenance & Construction Chevy in the seventh spot.
During the 100-lap, $4,000-to-win feature, Honeycutt maintained a position near the top five for much of the race while also working to conserve tires. Along the way, he engaged in a spirited side-by-side battle with former NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick before separating himself. Honeycutt went on to finish third behind Spencer Davis and Jake Bollman. Tristan McKee came home fourth and Cameron Bolin claimed the fifth spot.
Honeycutt entered the night tied with Davis for the points lead and holding the tiebreaker. However, with Davis' victory, Honeycutt is now second in the Pro Late Model standings.
Lopez’s night came to an abrupt end just over 30 laps into the race when contact with another car on the front stretch sent him hard into the inside wall. He was unhurt but recorded a 13th-place result with a DNF.
