Colten Johnson
Dirt Season off to a hot start!
Its been a great start for Colt Johnson and Team Factory Canopies. The team came together late last year and started working on figuring out dirt versus pavement with the goal being a full season in the Beginner Box Stock Class at Millbridge Speedway. With only a few races under his belt Colt started the season ready to improve every week and through the first 4 races he has accomplished his goals. Race 1 saw a very solid top 10 qualifying effort and a heat race win. He would be set to roll off 3rd in the feature and ended up with a great 2nd place finish.
The following week would be the worst finish of the year so far, hard to say that because it involved a trip to Victory Lane. In the Beginner class there's a series of heat races and 2 features an A Main and a B Main (no one transfers from the B). Colt would end up 4th in his heat which placed him in the B Main, he was able to make some moves and take the #24 Factory Canopies Machine to Victory Lane. Colt also filled in for Karter Beatie that week at Mountain Creek Speedway and was able to get a 2nd place finish in the A Main for the #7 SKE Chassis Machine. First time ever seeing that track and sitting in that car.
Race 3 would be see Colt in Victory Lane again only this time in the A Main. His first feature win on dirt was a dominant performance that saw him lead wire to wire and win by more than 1.5 seconds.
Race 4 would be another solid podium finish after a career best qualifying effort (3rd). Starting 4th in his heat he finished 2nd locking him into a 6th place starting spot. The previous weeks winner can start no better than 5th or 6th at Millbridge Speedway. Colt would take the green and make a clean 3 wide move to the bottom that put him in 3rd by turn 4. The race would go green to checker and the leaders had gotten away from him.
Those combined finishes see Colt Johnson sitting in 2nd place in the 2019 Millbridge Speedway Points just 12 back from 1st. The next race will be in the USAC Quarter Midget for the Opening Round of the Dixie Shootout Regional at Little Smryna. Then Wednesday April 24th will be race #5 of the Millbridge season.
