What a busy Summer of Racing
It's been quite a busy summer of racing for Colt Johnson!
Summer began with several races at the North Carolina Quarter Midget Association. Solid podium finishes at almost every event help set Colt up for an exciting visit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 2018 Battle at the Brickyard. Coming off a USAC National Event win earlier this year at Daytona International Speedway the excitment was high going to IMS.
The Battle at the Brickyard had record numbers this year, very exciting for youth racing! Practice went well and the car looked ready to race. Colt finished a disapointing 4th place in his heat race and transferred to the A main starting in 8th on Sunday. During the feature Colt climbed up to 4th by lap 2 and was caught up in a wreck by cars ahead of him. Forcing him to pit road after laying his Robbie Stanley Racing Bulldog on its side and into the water barrier. The car had sustained signifigant damage and after some quick repairs he was able to go back out and just miss a top 5 finishing in 6th. The highlight of the weekend was the lap around the famed 2.5 mile oval.
Back in North Carolina a lot of time and practice has gone into making the car better and better each week. Weekly this 7 year old USAC racer gets better and is taking time off his laps each visit to NCQMA. Luck however hasn't been on his side, after a dominant performance in the Dixie Shootout Regional B Main, Colt was caught up in another early race crash that ended his day in the feature.
Racing has its ups and downs, but time together having fun is what its all about. Some very exciting things are coming up so look for an announcement very soon!
