Chilly Bowl?

Thank goodness the weather forecast wasn’t any indication of the racing in Tulsa. Typical fumes, dust, and flu was the worst of it and as always it didn’t disappoint. As I cough writing this, I can’t wait to go back next year. Here’s a recap:

A beer can helmet and some sign language set the tone for Zach Daum’s week in Tulsa. The recently crowned POWRi Champ took his easy going attitude and the teams sense of humor to maintain a flock of Eagle midgets. Zach faired the best of the team with a 7th place finish on Saturday night. After being the first to move up, and making the middle stick, Zach charged forward alongside of Daryn Pitman when the yellow flew. Showing the 21 car the line, the two of them moved forward. After 55 furious laps the sign for seven signaled the finish. Zach immediately flew down under to compete for the AU championship driving an Eagle for Graham Racing Development.

David Gravel, no stranger to an open wheel car, got more comfortable throughout the week and saved his best for last on Saturday. Driving the Tony Elliot tribute car, David started 8th in the C Main and clawed his way to the final transfer position. Starting the B Main in 20th, he put on a charge for rights to the A Main but would come up short finishing in the 9th position.

Blake Nimee drove so hard he left the air box in the dust. Literally. Getting through the preliminary nights action, he would grid second in the L and finish in the same spot to transfer on. Beginning 14th in the K, Blake drove up to the 5th spot only to be denied a transfer.

Morgan Frewaldt unloaded with a brand new car. A shiny new Eagle that had momentum until someone landed on her in a heat race. Recovering from the deficit, she battled hard coming out of the K in the final night of racing. Finishing 13th in the second J feature.

Late model ace, Jonathan Davenport, had a go in a midget. Not a bad performance in a first attempt at Tulsa. Starting 10th in the second L, he raced forward to earn a 4th.
