Adams Shows Big Improvement in Second Season in a Sprint Car

Inside Line Promotions – GIBSONBURG, Ohio (Nov. 13, 2018) – Justin Adams showed marked improvement in his second year of racing a 305ci winged sprint car, racing his way into nearly every feature event. That has the teenager excited for the 2019 racing season.
“Last year I was focused on just trying to make the feature,” he said. “I was over-thinking everything. This year I relaxed a little more and was able to go and watch the track and see what it was doing and where I needed to race and started thinking ahead a lot more.
“For just our second season of sprint car racing I’m pretty pleased with how things went. We raced our way into nearly every feature and we were close to several top-10 finishes. I’m really pumped up for 2019. There’s a lot of room for improvement, but we are working hard and slowly getting there.”
The season didn’t start well for the 15-year-old driver. He, his dad and his crew built the car and everything seemed ready to roll for 2018. Then they put the seat in and well, Justin had shot up in height so much the team had to scramble to find a chassis that would accommodate his frame.
“I knew I got taller, but didn’t really think it would affect how the seat fit,” he said. “Thankfully Tim Merrill had a car that would work and we had to scramble close to the start of the season to get it all put together.”
Adams missed only three A Mains of the 25 events he competed in this year. After claiming the 2017 305 sprint car Rookie of the Year Award at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio, Adams earned a ninth-place finish in the track’s championship standings this year.
“Next year we have decided not to race for points,” he said. “That was a lot of pressure. I feel like I couldn’t be aggressive on Friday nights because we only had one car and I didn’t want to wreck and hurt our points at Fremont the next night. Next year we are going to travel a little, maybe race with Sprints on Dirt a few times in Michigan and maybe some non-wing stuff. We are also looking to put a spare car together.
“We had a lot of people jump in and help us this year. We had one crew guy who had to stop helping because he had knee surgery and another had a hectic work schedule and couldn’t make a lot of the races so the majority of the time it was me and dad and mom and Chase. We had a lot of people pop in and out at the track every week and a great group that helped in the shop during the week.”
Adams said he and the team all grew and learned more about setting the car up and making adjustments.
“As a team we are learning to read the track and make adjustments to the car,” he noted. “We still have room to grow, but we have a lot more confidence in what we are doing.”

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Kear’s Speed Shop
Kear's Speed Shop was founded by Chuck and Shirley Kear in 1969 at its present location in Tiffin, Ohio. You can build your winning race car and outfit your driver from Kear’s large inventory. Kear’s also has three trucks that service your needs at the local tracks as well as the All Star and World of Outlaw races. For more information, visit http://www.KearsSpeedShop.com.
“Kear’s has helped us a ton since I was 7-years-old and racing karts,” Adams said. “When we flipped at Attica, they just handed us parts to get us back on the track and told us we would worry about the rest later. They love racing as much as any of us and do so much for the racing community. Of course we couldn’t do this without any of our sponsors and I hope they all come back in 2019 to watch us grow and get better.”
Adams would also like to thank Woodville Mutual, Bobby’s Truck and Bus Repair, the Tackle Box 2 Restaurant, Polter Real Estate, KS Sales & Service, Tim and Linda Merrill, Simpson Race Products, NGK Spark Plugs, WIX Filters, Kear’s Speed Shop, Gressman Powersports, Maxim Racing, Elite Wings, The Joie of Seating and Design Graphics Group for their continued support.
