Dereck Ramirez sidelined in Saturday's Silver Jubilee at Mason City
Taking part in his qualifier night to kick off the 25th Anniversary United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Silver Jubilee, Dereck Ramirez invaded Mason City Motor Speedway (Mason City, Iowa) on Wednesday afternoon to compete in a split field of 30 cars aboard his Koda Services No. 4R Modified.
With time trial results setting the grid for heat races, Ramirez followed up the third-fastest lap with a sixth-to-third charge in his heat race. Chasing a $1,000 payday and a qualifying spot into Saturday’s $25,000-to-win Silver Jubliee, Dereck put an exciting show for the lead with Jake Timm but came up short at the line in the 25-lapper. Despite a runner-up finish, Dereck earned the most points in Wednesday’s opener, locking him on the pole for Saturday’s main event.
After taking part in an exciting battle for the lead with Jim Chisholm in the early stages of Saturday’s main event, Dereck suffered terminal engines woes that sidelined him on lap 24.
Dereck is sixth in the latest USMTS point standings.
