Hedgecock wires Iron-Man field at Ponderosa, nets $5,000

Cory Hedgecock made a triumphant debut at Kentucky’s Ponderosa Speedway on Friday night in his E-Z-GO / Noble Knights Construction Services No. 23 Budget Transmission / K&P Used Cars / Black Diamond Race Car / Eagle Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series victory was worth $5,000 and increased Cory’s 2022-win total to six.

“The weekend started with a bit of a challenge at Volunteer Speedway, when we blew a power steering line in qualifying. That put us behind the eight ball but rallied for a solid finish. Then on Friday we hit the ground running in our first ever trip to Ponderosa Speedway. We swept the program from qualifying to the feature,” Hedgecock said. “Saturday night was our first time at Florence (Speedway), and we rallied for a Top-5 finish. Overall, I couldn’t be more proud of this team, and now we’re looking forward to hitting Tri-County (Race Track) and Crossville (Speedway) this weekend.”

On Thursday evening, Cory Hedgecock visited Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) to compete in the inaugural Kyle Larson Presents FloRacing Late Model Challenge powered by Tezos event.

In a stout field of 42 Late Models, Hedgecock charged from the tail of his heat to finish fifth after a blown power-steering line prevented him from completing a lap in his time trial session. Transferring into the B-Main, Cory streaked to a 10-lap victory, which positioned him on the ninth row for the $20,000-to-win A-Main. Racing forward five spots in a talent-laden field, Hedgecock notched a 12th-place finish in the 50-lapper.

For the Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series-sanctioned Bobby Carrier Sr. Tribute on Friday evening at Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Ky.), Cory topped the 27-car field in time trials before capturing a heat race win.

Earning the pole for the A-Main, Hedgecock led flag-to-flag in the 40-lapper to claim his sixth win of the 2022 campaign. He scored the $5,000 payday ahead of Zack Dohm, Tanner English, Josh Rice, and Christian Hanger.

On Saturday evening at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.), Hedgecock secured his spot into the $10,000-to-win Spring 50 with a fourth-place finish in his heat. Rolling off 14th, Cory advanced through the field nine spots in the 50-lap affair to place fifth. He followed Josh Rice, Bobby Pierce, Tyler Erb, and Ricky Thornton Jr. across the line.
