Hedgecock marches to podium finish in Winter Nationals opener at East Bay
On Thursday evening, Cory Hedgecock returned to The Sunshine State to take part in the opening round of the Winter Nationals at East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, Fla.). Drawing a stout field of 78 Crate Racin’ USA Winter Series entries, Hedgecock came one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a third place finish before getting in a tangle in his B-Main. Relying on a provisional into the opening night feature, Cory advanced through the field 22 spots in the 30-lapper to register an impressive third-place finish, trailing Mark Whitener and Kyle Lukon across the line with Ashton Winger and Kyle Hardy rounding out the Top-5. For another $2,500-to-win A-Main on Friday night, Cory fell one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a third place finish, transferring him into the B-Main. Streaking to a 10-lap consolation victory, Hedgecock locked into the 18th-starting position for the feature. Wheeling his way into the Top-10, Cory passed 11 cars in the 30-lap affair to finish seventh.
On Saturday afternoon, Hedgecock followed up a fourth place finish in his heat with a consolation win. Starting the $5,000-to-win finale in 20th, Cory made the wrong tire decision in the 50-lapper that saw him pull off early with four laps remaining. He was credited with an 18th-place outing.
