Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series
Tennessee driver Josh Henry joins Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series in 2024
Josh Henry of Newport, Tenn., the reigning Valvoline Iron-Man South Series champion, is the latest driver to declare his intentiions to follow the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series this season.
Henry, who turned 33 on Feb. 8, secured the Iron-Man crown by 62 points ahead of runner-up Josh Rice of Verona, Ky. In winning the Kentucky-based tour, Henry — the 2012 Southern Regional Racing Series rookie of the year — finished with six top-10 finishes in 10 Iron-Man Series starts, with a season’s best fourth-place run coming at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia on Aug. 11.
The third-generation driver then wrapped up the series championship with a sixth-place finish in the Buddy Rogers Memorial at Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway on Sept. 3. With the title secured — the series finale was actually Nov. 18 at Lancaster (S.C.) Motor Speedway, where Henry finished 11th — Henry branched out a bit with trips to Mountain View Raceway in Spring City, Tenn.; Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway; Richmond (Ky.) Raceway; and Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C.
Henry’s late-season travels entering sanctioned events with the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series, the Ultimate Heart of America Series, the Hunt the Front doubleheader at Swainsboro and the XR Workin’ Man Series paid off as he raced to his first career Super Late Model triumph on Sept. 15 at Mountain View. The aptly-named Never Forget 50 sanctioned by the XR Workin’ Man Series paid Henry $5,000-to-win.
Along with his Late Model victory, Henry picked up four Street Stock wins while driving for his uncle at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tenn., one of the tracks he considers home. Henry, the son of 2021 Volunteer Speedway Hall of Fame inductee Billy “Skimp” Henry, has track championships in three divisions at four East Tennessee tracks: Smoky Mountain, Tazewell, Volunteer and 411. When Super Late Model racing, Henry utilizes a Savage Chassis from Tennessee-based Competition Racing Equipment powered by a Vic Hill powerplant. He’s supported by family-owned Henry Trucking, his father and his uncle Shawn Henry.
