Will Roland finishes second in Southern Nationals point standings
Tuesday night saw Will Roland resume his pursuit for the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals title with a visit to Toccoa Raceway (Toccoa, Ga.) for the $10,067-to-win program.
With a sixth-place finish in his heat race pinning him on the ninth row for the feature, Roland advanced through the field 10 spots in the 53-lapper to register a seventh-place finish.
In a field of 22 cars on Thursday at Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, N.C.), Will got off to a slow start in time trials but charged from 19th-starting position to finish 10th in the rain-shortened 27-lap feature.
After Friday’s event at Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Ga.) fell victim to Mother Nature, Roland traveled to Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon to wrap up the 12-race tour with the Ray Varner Ford 53. Following a fifth-place outing in his heat, Will clawed forward one spot in the 53-lap feature to cross the line in 12th.
Will finished a mere 28 points behind Cory Hedgecock for the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals points title.
