Sixth-place finish in Scorcher 100 at Volunteer Speedway

To kick off an action-packed Labor Day weekend, Shane McDowell Racing and Dale McDowell visited Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.) on Thursday afternoon for the rescheduled Rock Gault Memorial from March 27. Drawing 33 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries, Dale followed up the sixth fastest lap in his time trial group with a third-place finish in his heat. Starting the $40,000-to-win A-Main in ninth, McDowell clawed forward one spot in the talent-laden field to finish eighth. (Michael Moats photos)

For the Scorcher 100 on Saturday at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.), McDowell outdueled Brandon Sheppard in his heat race to pick up the 10-lap victory. With the redraw placing him third on the starting grid for the feature, Dale dropped three spots in the 40-lapper to place sixth.

Sunday's Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series event at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) fell victim to Mother Nature.
