Nick Hoffman races in WoO Quad Cities 150
Nick Hoffman rolled into Davenport (Iowa) Speedway on Thursday afternoon as the inaugural Quad Cities 150 came to life. The World of Outlaws (WoO) Morton Buildings Late Model Series event attracted a talented field of 38 competitors to the ¼-mile oval.
Via qualifying and heat race action in the Scott Bloomquist Racing No. 0, Nick earned the fifth-starting spot for the feature, and that’s where he would ultimately cross the finish line in the 40-lap, $10,000-to-win prelim feature. Hoffman’s first-career Top-5 finish with WoO came behind Devin Moran, Bobby Pierce, Frank Heckenast Jr., and Shannon Babb.
“I feel like we’ve got a really good car, and a lot of it’s just me getting laps and getting comfortable,” Hoffman said. “We’re learning what we need setup-wise every night, and then with the tire rule here, it’s a little different being on all hards (tires). You have to race a little bit different with that and prepare different.”
With 36 entries in the pit area on Friday night, Nick qualified ninth fastest in his group before advancing from fifth-to-third in his heat race to earn the 12th-starting spot for the feature. The $10,000-to-win main event found him passing three cars to finish ninth.
The big money weekend drew to a close on Saturday night. The team switched to a back-up car for the program after finding metal in the filter of the primary car. Nick earned the 18th-starting spot for the night’s $30,000-to-win feature via preliminary action and went on to advance to a 14th-place finish.
