Wenger races into Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury
McKay Wenger proudly defended his home turf at Fairbury Speedway during the 35th annual Prairie Dirt Classic weekend, which began Wednesday with the FloRacing Night in America One for the Road event.
The Fairbury native’s night was cut short during Wednesday’s tune-up session after the team discovered an electrical issue early in the evening. Choosing to prioritize the weekend ahead, Wenger and crew opted to sit out the remainder of the night.
When the event officially shifted under the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series banner on Friday, the car count climbed to 78 for a pair of preliminary features. Wenger posted a seventh-place finish in his 25-lap prelim, sending him into a B-Main on Saturday with a transfer spot on the line.
Rising to the occasion, Wenger finished second in his consolation race to lock into the $50,000-to-win Prairie Dirt Classic finale. Starting deep in the field from the 11th row, his run ended early after pulling off on lap 49 of the 100-lap main event.
