Travis Stemler takes Allstar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Modified Tour finale win and 2014 Championship at I-96

Lake Odessa, MI – Travis Stemler of Ionia, MI put an exclamation point on the 2014 Allstar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Modified Tour Championship by picking up the win in the tour’s finale on Saturday September 20th at I-96 Speedway. Stemler picked up his second win of the season in route to his first tour championship.

The day started out with beautiful skies but gave way to heavy rains later in the afternoon. After waiting out the rains I-96 Speedway staff did a fantastic job in getting the track back in racing condition after the rains delayed the program. With the night getting a late start the race was shortened to a 25 lap feature.

“We can’t thank the track staff and competitors for such a tremendous effort to get our season finale in and we have to congratulate Travis Stemler on winning the 2014 championship,” commented Michigan Dirt Cup co-promoter Bill Long.

Aaron Morey and Adam Thrush led the field to green with Thrush leading the first circuit. Thrush continued in the top spot as he held off several strong challenges by David Baker in the early stages of the race. Caution came out on lap 12 tightening the field back up for the restart.

On the restart Travis Stemler moved into the third spot and then took over from second from Baker. On lap 14 Stemler had reeled in Thrush and made the pass to take over the top spot on lap 15. Over the remaining ten laps Stemler had to hold off challenges from Thrush, Baker and Curt Spalding. Stemler was strong enough to hold on for the win, his second of the season. The win also clinched the 2014 Allstar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Modified Tour championship. Stemler becomes the tour’s third different champion in their four year history.

Rounding out the top five were David Baker, Adam Thrush, Curt Spalding and Rich Robinson Jr.

Heat race wins went to Adam Thrush, David Mielke and David Baker.

B-Main win went to Kevin Cavanaugh.

Jared Guin was the QuickCar Hard Charger Award winner by making 9 passes in the A-Main. Bob Baldwin was the Fast Lane Award Winner by making 8 passes in the A-Main and 1 pass in the heat race to accumulate an overal 9 passes. Baldwin just edged out Guinn by 1 position in the A-Main to receive the award.
