Thompson wins Bryan Mize Memorial
Cody Thompson earned the biggest payday of his racing life on Saturday when he scored a $10,000 victory in the IMCA Modified portion of the 10th annual Bryan Mize Memorial at Rocket Raceway Park.
Competition got underway on Friday at the 1/3-mile oval in Petty, Texas, where Thompson was one of 47 IMCA Modified drivers entered. He finished third in his heat race and drove from fifth to second in his B-Main, granting him a spot in Saturday’s feature.
Thompson rolled off sixth in the 40-lap Saturday finale and grabbed the lead on the 21st circuit. He led the rest of the way and took his third main-event checkered flag of 2024 with an impressive 6.643-second margin of victory over Jared Maupin. Colton Keel, Chase Allen and Steve Whiteaker Jr. completed the top five.
