Sanders wins at Cresco Speedway, 7th at Mississippi Thunder
Dirt Modified star Rodney Sanders opened a scheduled three-day, three-track slate of racing at Cresco Speedway (Cresco, Iowa) on Thursday and came away with the checkered flag.
Sanders and his No. 20 team took part in the United States Racing Association (USRA) Modified portion of the program at the 4/10-mile Cresco track on Thursday as part of the Mighty Howard County Fair.
Sanders started third in the 15-lap A-Main and took over the lead on the third circuit. He led the rest of the way to take his eighth victory of the year by 9.253 seconds over Alex Williamson and earn a $1,000 payday. Blake Arndt finished third, with Doug Hilson and Jason Schlangen fourth and fifth, respectively.
Sanders then moved on to the 1/3-mile Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wisconsin) on Friday to take part in the first night of the RacinDirt.com Thunder Summer Series. Sanders was one of 21 USRA Modified entrants in the pit area. He finished fifth in his heat, placing him in the 12th starting spot for the 30-lap A-Main. Sanders advanced five spots in the feature event to come home seventh.
He was next slated to start fifth in his heat race at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) on Saturday, but rain washed out the second night of the Thunder Summer Series at the 3/8-mile facility.
