Inside Line Promotions – CALIFORNIA, Mo. (May 10, 2017) – The White Lightning Motorsports team earned three top-10 finishes during a trio of races in the Midwest last weekend.
Jamie Ball opened the weekend on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, by timing in fifth quickest overall in qualifying. He went on to win a heat race after starting fifth.
“We started the night off with a great qualifying effort and an even better heat race, winning by over three seconds,” he said. “I felt confident we could contend for a win as we had been fast all night long.”
The feature inversion lined Ball up on the pole for the main event.
“I got a good jump on the start and was able to lead Lap 1 before a slide job from (Ryan) Roberts would relegate us to second,” he said. “We battled with (Clint) Garner for several laps until falling back to third. The car was good and I felt like we were in contention to win, but we just were a little bit off.”
Ball ended with a third-place result, which marked his third podium of the season.
“I really wanted to make the most of the first-place starting spot and get the win, but consistency is our main goal this year,” he said. “As long as we keep putting ourselves in position, the wins will come.”
Teammate Devin Kline had a breakout performance at the half-mile oval. Kline qualified 17th quickest overall before placing second in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.
Kline advanced a few positions to finish ninth, which was his first career top 10 while racing in the 360ci winged sprint car division.
Ball capped the weekend on Sunday when he made his debut at Double X Speedway. He finished fourth in a heat race after starting on the inside of the second row.
“It was my first time racing there and it was an experience to say the least,” he said. “I felt like I had the speed, but just wasn’t able to do anything with it.”
Ball lined up on the inside of the fourth row for the feature. He advanced a position to end with a sixth-place result.
“Overall, this place will teach you how to race and will teach me to be comfortable racing literally side by side with other cars,” he said. “The more seat time and experience we can all get as a team the better results will come in 2017.”
Ball will return to action this week with races on Thursday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
Kline’s next race is slated for Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
