Double Header, Double Win
Qualifying:
The weather was stereotypical Monterey; a grey marine layer covered the sky. The team had put in hours of pre-race work, it showed when it was time to qualify. Two laps into the session I was about to throw down a quick lap, when someone spun in turn three. A full course black flag forced me to pit lane. By the time the car was cleared, we had two minutes left in qualifying. I was sitting P2, right behind Hunter Pickett. I focused on the flagger, and when I saw the green flag I was off. One minute and twenty five seconds later I was sitting Pole for the race.
Race One:
I was on Saturday morning. It was cloudy in the morning, but the track was dry so we gridded up. I was sitting in pole position building heat into my tires and as soon as I saw the flagger flinch, I was gone. Hunter Pickett was on my tail into turn two, but I began to move away, A full course yellow flag brought the pace car back out and destroyed my gap. My restart was clean and I managed to get around some traffic. Several laps later I was crossing the finish line with the first win of the weekend.
Qualifying:
Sunday's qualifying was relatively low key. There were no wrecks, and therefore no lap-ending flags. I secured pole on the last lap by a few hundredths of a second.
Race Two:
Sunday's race start was slightly different. We were grouped with a few faster cars, I started off pole (second). At the start of the race I got the jump on the leader and never looked back. By the time I completed lap one I had a few second lead on the field. All of my competitors ran a clean and respectful race, which meant no restarts were necessary. I took the checkered thirteen seconds in front of second place. None of this would have been possible without the help of my entire crew as well as the support from my family and friends. Now time to prepare for Oregon in three weeks!
