Great run ended by part failure at Perris, CA

It was a beautiful night in Perris California as the California Lightning Sprints readied for round 2 of their series at the famous half mile track. There were a total of 21 cars entered along with over 40 sprint cars from USAC/CRA.

The CLS cars would run on a new "hybrid" track which featured a new inner banking through turns 1 & 2. This was an attempt to give some relief to the screaming 4 cylinder engines and cut down on failures. The track is new to the series so it was an even playing field for all teams.

The night would start with hot lap/qualifying heats, Corey was able to secure the 7th quickest time but would have to move to the back in the heat race as a rookie. In the heat race Corey had a great start and passed 4 cars on the first lap. He survived a late race charge by 2013 champion Stephen Limon and finished just behind the second place car of Jeffery Dyer at the line.

The 20 lap final would prove to be quite a challenge as Corey was moved to the back of the 21 car field per CLS rookie rules. He went to work as the green flag dropped and methodically picked off cars one-by-one. A couple of cautions put him back with the lead pack and he moved into 7th with 4 laps to go. As he was closing in on the 6th place car a suspension part failed which caused a collapse of the left rear suspension. This ended a great run, but the night was overall positive and a great learning experience for the 15 year old rookie.

Corey would like to thank Amsoil Oil Twins, Chris Kenner Racing, SRP Safety, Plumbing Dynamics, Action Gas & Welding, Coast Powder Coating, RCM Design, Rosson Racing, and Cold Fire West for the support!
