The Road To A Championship Comes To A End September 29th and 30th At US 36

Osborn, Mo: This Friday night September 29th, and Saturday, September 30th, the Wholesale Batteries USAC Midwest Wingless Racing Association will race the final two programs for the MWRA in 2023 at US 36 Raceway for the two day Missouri Nationals.

In 2023 this USAC series has raced 15 points paying programs so far, after running 9 in 2022, 13 in 2021, and 12 during the first campaign for the club in 2020.

Races number 16 and 17 will represent the most races ever run during a year for the MWRA, while also being the 50th and 51st points paying events for the MWRA all-time.

On tap this weekend at the US 36 Raceway Dirt Track the Midwest Wingless Racing Association will be running at the Northwest Missouri speed plant for the 4th and 5th time this season. With Wyatt Burks (2), and Kory Schudy (1), driving for Jon Sawyer Racing (JSR) winning the previous 3 feature starts there in 2023.

On The Road To a Championship in 2023 (8) different drivers have found victory lane with the series this year. Including the before mentioned Burks, and Schudy, as well as Braydon Cromwell, Chad Goff, Ty Hulsey, Wesley Smith, Luke Howard, and Ricky Lewis. While Representing the states of Kansas (8), Missouri (5), Oklahoma (1), and California (1) “Parking It” in victory lane as well.

Starting on April 21st at Electric City Speedway in Butler, Missouri, the MWRA would complete programs for the first time ever at ECS, while also running for the first time at I-70 Motorsports Park in (Odessa, Mo) with the POWRi WAR Series, and Humboldt Speedway, (Humboldt, Kansas). among the 15 shows ran.

This weekend at the 4th annual Missouri Nationals, the MWRA Will compete for the first time ever in it as a points paying event, after previously running both nights last year in a non points capacity with Cody Baker taking the victory in both shows.

Among those competing in this seasons final two shows at Osborn are point leader and defending champion Burks, driving the WBR 11w. “The Sheriff” is a 6-time winner in the series this season, while he is also zeroing in on his 3rd championship with the series, and his 4th sprint car championship since 2019 when he won the Iowa Sprint League title that year.

Running second and third place in points with the MWRA respectively in 2023, teammates Chris Parkinson (65) and Chad Winfrey (65W) have both had very consistent performances this season driving their Chris Parkinson Racing machines. Parkinson, a former WAR series champion, has finished previously 4th in 2020, 3rd in 2021, and 2nd in 2022, with the MWRA, while looks to cap off his year with a 2nd place finish once again with the Club, and a victory or two this weekend. Winfrey, in his second season driving a sprint car after many years driving both midgets and micros, will be looking for his best finish with the series of second or third place in points. This comes after he won Rookie of the Year with the series in 2022, following his 5th place finish in points last season.

Continuing on with the top 5 in points entering the season ending shows at US 36: Brad Wyatt, is having his best season ever running with the MWRA in his Valor Racing 41 sprint car currently running (4th) place in points. While standing on the podium at Eighty One Speedway, after a career best third place finish with the series there. Right behind him, (5th) place points runner, Dakota Earls, a recent high school graduate, got his first feature win this season in non winged sprints with the WINS series, and a career best finish with the MWRA at Lakeside Speedway when he came home in second place driving the DER 15 after previously finishing 4th place with the MWRA in 2022.

Rounding out the top 12 of the “Dirty Dozen” in points entering the Missouri Nationals are, 6th place Justin Johnson, running the JJR 27, and having his best campaign with series in his first full season with the club. (7th) place Buddy Parker, Linda Weld & Junior Parkinson 93, is having his best season in a sprint car after coming out of retirement a couple seasons back. The former IMCA, BCRA, and USAC standout, has had 5 top 10’s with the series in 2022. (8th)running Zach Clark, driving the ZCR 26 racing machine has finished on the podium twice with the series in 2023, including a career best 2nd at ECS in July. (9th)place Luke Howard, turning the wheel in the LHR 2H sprinter missed the first four programs of 2023. But since “Cool Hand Luke” has had 7 top 5’s, and won his 4th career series win with the club at Bethany in September. (10th in the standings, Kory Schudy, driving the Jon Sawyer 28 has made the most of his 10 starts with the MWRA in 2023. His stat line includes, 3 wins, 8 top 3’s, and 9 top 10’s, for the 2021 MWRA champ. While (11th) Wesley Smith, has driven 3 different machines, WSR 44, John Helm 12, and the Kyle Lewis Racing 2L, to a victory at Nevada Speedway, 5 top 3’s, and 8 top 5’s in 8 starts with the Midwest Wingless series in 2023. And 12th place in points, Braydon Cromwell, BCR 4, started off his season with a bang, winning at Electric City in the lid lifter. Before following up that result by consistently running towards the top in the next six races to place 2nd place in points behind Burks before taking a mid season break.
